Testing System Environments

Overview

LearnShare has three cloud-based platform environments – Production, Development, and Sandbox.

“Production” is what your business runs on.

“Development” is used for QA for new product features and sometimes for new customer features. This system is sometimes referred to as “Weekly”.

"Sandbox" is a set of two environments that contain production code, and copies of Production data that are refreshed from production on a fixed schedule, for all clients.

Sandboxes

The Sandbox environment is available for you to use for configuration testing, in an environment that is production code, with a copy of your production data, that will not affect the actual production server.

The systems are designed for troubleshooting client issues with the latest production code but a separate copy of the database and with no notifications sent out of the system. These systems can also assist with staging roll outs, or validating configuration changes.

There are two “Sandbox” environments. Data is refreshed with a copy of production data every two months on the last Monday of that month. Sandbox 1 is refreshed on odd numbered months, Sandbox 2 on even.

They are completely insulated from production, and nothing can affect production setups. Data does not get transferred from Sandbox environments to production.

Sandbox systems do not send e-mail messages, or run scheduled processes (such as data imports, etc.) If you need to test e-mail changes, emails can be generated and viewed via the Email Queue, but they never “send” out.

Note

Our standard process for automatic sandbox refresh does not include copying down reports created by clients in production. If you would like to explore a change request in order to make this part of the standard process for your instance, we can work with your account rep to determine what it would take to do so.

Our standard process does not include copying course content files from production. Although all resource definitions will be copied from production, the underlying course content files would need to be manually uploaded to the sandbox system if, for example, you would like to launch an online course.

The PowerPoint Conversion tool is not configured to work in the sandbox environment.

Development/Testing Servers

Development/Weekly is primarily for quality assurance and testing on new system features, either for the whole system or client-specific projects. Data is refreshed based on needs of Development and selected client projects.
